What could go right?

My favorite time of the year is approaching! I don’t know about y’all but I love an opportunity to reflect, all while preparing for a new beginning. Over time, I’ve become obsessed with the journey. What led you to being who you are today? I think about stuff like if your favorite jacket or pair of shoes could tell their story right before you tossed them how crazy would that be!? If you don’t share this same excitement, then you’re who I want to talk to specifically. Not so much to make you share my same sentiments, but more so to give you an outlook on life that may make some decisions easier, some opportunities more welcoming, and some goals closer than they once were. New Years Day is my favorite holiday. It is the perfect opportunity to heal from your Al Bundy syndrome and create new lasting memories; instead of reminiscing on that one game winning touchdown back in high school when you felt like you were on top of the world. I promise you don’t have to dwell on your highlights, you still have time to create new ones.

There’s this fine line that sits between being cautious and being fearful. More times than not, it’s the foreshadowing of losses that deter you from ultimately creating the life you want to live. We all dream of being ridden of our financial burdens, finding love in something and/or someone, or just being able to relax and bask in the comfort of our accomplishments. I promise I don’t believe we were put on this earth to just work and pay bills. But my question is, what is holding you back? Let me guess, the risks! The risks of getting hurt, losing money because it failed, or losing sleep because you already don’t have any time? What about the risk of losing yourself because you never fully fed into who God created you to be. I believe everything that continues to sit on your heart or mind is an idea meant to be brought into fruition by YOU. Whether or not you believe something can happen, I’m telling you it can. Our minds are conditioned into “what ifs” that lead us down a path of shelving great ideas and later down the line seeing someone else finding success in it. Then what do you say, “I knew I should’ve *enter idea here*.” We’re really shelving ourselves! It’s never too late! These are the moments where the acknowledgement of the lesson should get you to wake up, not continue to dream. Your unique journey makes your ideas just as unique.

When you think about the value life puts on its most credible accomplishments, the journey is the most undesirable part of the goal. However, the journey plays such a bigger role than merely getting you to the finish line. The journey creates a resilience that only your unique experience could be responsible for. The journey also tests your discipline, patience, and ultimate desire to win and be the best version of yourself. Steven Chandler said to “Do it badly; do it slowly; do it fearfully; do it any way you have to, but do it.” Never cheat yourself out of the opportunity to grow through embracing what you’ve experienced; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Impossible only exists to the person who gave up on trying to find a way.

I didn’t write this to persuade you to make another New Year’s resolution list. I wrote this to challenge you to compete with who you were last year. Don’t allow multiple unsuccessful attempts to stop you from trying the same thing a different way. I’m approaching my 36th attempt to make this my best year yet. So do me and yourself a favor when the next opportunity, idea, and January 1st comes your way, ask yourself; what could go right?
